Workshop on Transformational Reconstruction - Advanced Pattern Making 2021 @ ICAT, Chennai
The Department of Fashion Design, ICAT - Chennai has organized a “Transformational Reconstruction(TR)” workshop by Ms. Laksha from 8th to 11th February, 2021. Transformational Reconstruction is an advanced pattern technique module which is rooted to the fundamentals of flat pattern making, the tradition of Japanese origami and the soaring vision of haute couture through the use of dart manipulation, structural reconstruction and increasingly elaborate design applications.
Through this exercise, students understood how to turn darts into seam line design. This is practised to get desired fit, incorporate cylindrical human body and for design element. Students went on to implement this process using the fabrics purchased by them which had stripes and patterns. Individual guidance was given for the concept to be grasped well.
Ms.Laksha went on to teach about adding volume and flares to skirts. Students started with making basic skirt patterns and used slash and spread methods to make ribbon skirts with volume. Following which they moved on the more complicated work such as twisted layers and draping and the signature TR draping. On the last day students went on to learn origami exploration and designing clothes which they enjoyed making. Overall, this was a very productive and creative workshop for the students.
