The Department of Animation, ICAT, Chennai have organized a workshop on Rigging on 12th December 2019. The seminar was presented by Mr. Rajasekaran[Alumni- ICAT (2007)], Sr. Rigging artist at Chu Chu TV for final year students of the Animation, Game Art & Design, Game Design & Development and Multimedia Department. Rigging is an integral part of the animation process. In 3D terminology, rigging refers to the process of creating the bone structure of a 3D model. This bone structure is used to manipulate the 3D model like a puppet for animation. The seminar started with explaining the basics of rigging for various specializations and moved on to character rigging. He introduced about the techniques used in the industry and also skinning methods to complete the rig at a faster pace. He has shown several scripts that helped the process of rigging. After explaining the process of rigging, Mr. Rajasekaran took some Q&A sessions and many queries have been sorted out. This session was not just useful for rigging but also useful for modelers as well. Modelers understood what will go wrong if the topology is wrong. Really the session was very informative and interesting.
