Mr. Dominic D’Silva is the Co-founder and Regional Director of Enviro-Life, Australia. Through this platform, he wanted to promote the need for Eco-friendly packaging. He explained that the concept is set along the principles of waste prevention by encouraging the extension of the life cycle of resources by recycling or upcycling. The objective of the session was to avoid/reduce waste generation and as much as possible prevent products from ending up in landfills, incinerators or in our waterways. Hence more the reuse, recycle and redesign, the closer people come to a circular economy. Sir explained the birth of fast fashion – The greatest tragedy of the apparel and textile industry as it works on the concept of “Take, Make & Waste”. Taking of resources, making a product & wasting it and this cycle repeats. Sir also discussed the making process of cotton in the apparel and textile industry becoming exceedingly wasteful, right from high water consumption, to affluent water waste, to energy consumption and most of all the packaging. The current scenario of volume and toxicity of waste and materials were highlighted.
