Webinar on Waste Footprint of Different Fabrics by Ms. Smita Kulkarni 2021 @ ICAT, Bangalore
Fashion Design department Of ICAT Design and Media College, Bangalore, organized an International Webinar on “Fashion Conscious to Fashion Conscience” from 16th to 18th September 2021. It was a 3-day webinar which focused on bringing out awareness on the path from fashion conscious to fashion conscience. The resource person for session 3 of 17th Sep 2021 was Ms. Smita Kulkarni. The topic of the session was “Waste Footprint of Different Fabrics”.
Ms. Smita Kulkarni is the founding member of Bangalore Eco Team and Co-founder of Stonesoup. Through this platform, she wanted to spread the awareness of various waste footprints in the fashion industry. She explained how the fashion industry accounts for about 10% of global carbon emissions and 20% of wastewater. She briefed on various fabrics and the amount of wastage of resources that occurs whilst manufacturing the fabrics. She explained several alternatives and consciousness needed in terms of disposal. Her focus on the up-cycling of existing clothing/garments was exceptional. She concluded the session with the various innovation activities, every individual can implement in their daily life so as to attain sustainable life-style.
Overall the session was appreciated and valuable feedback was received. As a token of gratitude from the Department of Fashion Design, ICAT Design and Media College, a sapling was planted in the name of resource person – Ms. Smita Kulkarni.
