Webinar on Swap it, Repair it, Reuse it, Re-sell it and Recycle it by Ms. Varsha Kariya 2021 @ ICAT, Bangalore

Fashion Design Department Of ICAT Design and Media College, Bangalore, organized an International Webinar on “Fashion Conscious to Fashion Conscience” from 16th to 18th September 2021. It was a 3-day webinar which focused on bringing out awareness on the path from fashion conscious to fashion conscience. The resource person for session 3 of 18th Sep 2021 was Ms. Varsha Kariya. The topic of the session was “Swap it, Repair it, Reuse it, Re-sell it and Recycle it”.

Ms. Varsha Kariya Bangalore-based designer and an upcycling enthusiast, she has been involved in upcycling for the last 6 years. She has a passion for creating awareness in people. She has done a lot of projects related to fabric upcycling and now collaborates with many groups and has volunteered to reduce fabric waste. She has excellent experience of handling and upcycling every type of fabric for more than 6 years. She has no personal or monetary gain goals for encouraging sustainability. She encourages students to do upcycling, teach them how to implement it, and how one can move towards being an entrepreneur and create revolution in future. She explained the reason to shift towards sustainability like; for better quality of clothes, for self-understanding, for a better green planet and for betterment of people. She shared different ideas to move away from fast fashion to recycle, reuse, re-purpose and reduce. Ma’am enlightened the 4 R’s of sustainability in fashion. She focused on the requirement of evaluating before purchasing any product and its impacts on the planet. She concluded the session with an inspiring quote – “to join hands together and walk towards creating a healthy future for all humans and Mother Nature.”

Overall the session was appreciated and good valuable feedback was received. As a token of gratitude from the Department of Fashion Design, ICAT Design and Media College, a sapling was planted in the name of resource person – Ms. Varsha Kariya .
