Webinar on Sustainable Menstruation Options 2021 @ ICAT, Bangalore

Women’s Cell of ICAT Design and Media College, Bangalore, organized a webinar on “Sustainable Menstruation Options” on 30th Oct 2021 for all the women faculties and female students. The guest speaker was Ms. Smita Kulkarni, Co-founder of StoneSoup, a techie turned neighborhood activist turned social entrepreneur with 16 yrs of experience (GE Healthcare, NICC). Ms. Smita Kulkarni is also Part of - 2bin1bag, Plastic Ban movement, Green The Red and a founding member of Bangalore Eco Team (BeT).

The agenda of the webinar was to spread awareness of various sustainable options with respect to menstruation. The talk emphasized on the importance of the correlation between health and the environment. It introduced various other menstrual products which are comfortable, reusable, eco-friendly as well as easy to use. The talk helped and empowered women to talk about menstruation without inhibitions and break the taboos surrounding this issue. Ms. Smita Kulkarni enlightened about the same as well as encouraged all to go green by introducing to stories of numerous women including her who overcame the mental block of insertion which led both to a comfortable cycle for them and also helped the environment.

The session was fruitful and informative; the students and faculties were educated on the need to switch to sustainable options in menstruation.
