Webinar on Fashion Revolution by Ms. Orsola De Castro 2021 @ ICAT, Bangalore
Fashion Design Department Of ICAT Design and Media College, Bangalore, organized an International Webinar on “Fashion Conscious to Fashion Conscience” from 16th to 18th September 2021. It was a 3-day webinar which focused on bringing out awareness on the path from fashion conscious to fashion conscience. The resource person for session 2 of 18th Sep 2021 was Ms. Orsola De Castro. The topic of the session was “Fashion Revolution”.
Ms. Orsola De Castro is the Founder of Fashion Revolution and Co-founder the British Fashion Council. She is an internationally recognized opinion leader in sustainable fashion. Her career started as a designer with the pioneering up-cycling label ‘From Somewhere’, which she launched in 1997 until 2014 her design collaborations include collections for Jigsaw, Tesco, Speedo and 4 best selling capsule collections for Top-shop from 2012 to 2014. In 2006, she co-founded the British Fashion Council initiative Estethica at London Fashion Week, which she successfully curated until 2014. In 2013, with Carry Somers, she founded Fashion Revolution, a global campaign with participation in over 100 countries around the world. Ma’am is a regular keynote speaker and mentor, associate lecturer at UAL and Central Saint Martin’s visiting fellow. Through this platform, she discussed and spread awareness to the conscious audience about the need for fashion sustainability. She started with the basics of revolution ie ask - Why, What, Who, When, Where and How of Fashion Revolution. She also addressed the issues existing in the fashion industry and how new brands can tackle these issues with innovative and creative strategies. Finally she concluded the talk by small takeaways each individual can implement and follow it on day to day life like - using the things that we already have, borrowing or swapping the materials if needed, redesigning the garments and finally buying only when is very essential. How a small action can bring a huge impact on climate, environment, people and earth.
Overall the session was appreciated and good valuable feedback was received. As a token of gratitude from the Department of Fashion Design, ICAT Design and Media College, a sapling was planted in the name of resource person – Ms. Orsola De Castro .
