Webinar on Circular Economy in the Fashion Field by Dr. Sonali Diddi 2021 @ ICAT, Bangalore
Fashion Design department Of ICAT Design and Media College, Bangalore, organized an International Webinar on “Fashion Conscious to Fashion Conscience” from 16th to 18th September 2021. It was a 3-day webinar which focused on bringing out awareness on the path from fashion conscious to fashion conscience. The resource person for session 1 of 17th Sep 2021 was Dr. Sonali Diddi. The topic of the session was “Circular economy in the Fashion Field”.
Dr. Sonali Diddi is an Associate Professor, Department of Design and Merchandising and core faculty in the School of Global Environmental Sustainability, Colorado State University. Through this platform, she explained the need for circular fashion in the fashion field. She explained the circular fashion with several national and international brands which cater to the same. She explained that current patterns of production and consumption in the fashion industry is not sufficient to deliver on the current climate agenda. She focused on the importance of engaging with the local community to gain a sense of broader relevance. She highlighted that the fashion industry needs to radically improve recycling by transforming clothing design, collection, and reprocessing. In the end of the session she explained the - “variety of behaviours that consumers engage in, to minimize their environmental and social impacts in relation to their clothing consumption decisions”.
Overall the session was appreciated and good valuable feedback was received. As a token of gratitude from the Department of Fashion Design, ICAT Design and Media College, a sapling was planted in the name of resource person – Dr. Sonali Diddi.
