Visit to Textile Exhibition of Renowned Designers and Brands 2018 from ICAT, Chennai
As a part of the Major Project module, the students of Fashion Design department of ICAT Design and Media College, Chennai visited the Textile Exhibition conducted by the Crafts Council of India at My Fortune hotel on 06.04.2018.
The exhibition gave the students an opportunity to look at the works of different designers, including different kinds of silhouettes, fabric manipulations and different surface ornamentations used on fabrics. Various designers across India had showcased their works. ANKA had collections of Kerala sarees with different motifs and thick borders when compared to a normal Kerala saree. Designer Ikramuddin Sabir Neelgar showcased different types of Leheriya, which is the dyeing technique famous in Rajasthan. The students got to witness pure fabrics and other unique colors with different Leheriya dyeing. They also got to know about various textile techniques that are famous in different parts of India, like hand block prints from Jaipur, Chikankari embroidery from Gujarat, Kutchi handlooms, block printed sarees from Bengal with contemporary tunics, dress materials, kurtas and blouses. The students were exposed to different types of textiles like Chanderi, Benaras, Silks and Ikats. There were naturally-dyed pure fabrics that were dyed using organic and vegetable dyes.
The students also saw works of AvniBhuva, VivekNarang in which he used different types of pleats and tucks with applique and patch work to get a unique collection. There were different types of khadi fabrics and manipulations on it. Brand Kapaas from Kolkata had a unique collection of kurtas and blouses with different types of stitch lines and motifs embroided.
The students were thankful to ICAT Design and Media College for giving this opportunity to witness different kinds of fabrics, silhouettes, and designers’ works across India.
