Insight of Clothing Manufacturing — Visit to Erode and Tirupur 2018 from ICAT, Chennai
The Fashion Design department of ICAT, Chennai went on a three-day industrial visit to Tirupur and Erode, with an aim to get a clear idea about the industrial process of manufacturing, dying and printing clothes.
Early on day 1, the team set off to Erode in a Luxury AC bus. On the same day, the students visited Text Valley in Erode, which had stores of export materials. This helped the students to understand the market value of export materials. The team visited three factories of which the first was Moorthi Knitting, where circular knitting machine was there and the students got to learn its working. The second factory was involved in manufacturing processes like screen printing, washing, de-sizing etc. This visit helped the students to understand the step-by-step process of saree making. The last factory which the group visited was involved in rotary printing, a process in which the images to be printed are curved around a cylinder. The students understood how the process of rotary printing happens in real time.
On the last day of the trip, the team traveled to Ooty for a one-day site seeing. At Ooty, the team visited Doddabetta, the highest point in Ooty and went on a boating at the lake. Finally the group started back for Chennai at around 7.30 pm after a campfire held in the hotel for entertaining students. It was truly an enlightening learning and fun trip.
