Vinayagar Chaturthi Celebration 2014 @ ICAT, Chennai

The students of ICAT Design and Media College celebrated Ganesh Chathurti on the eve of the festival, with great gusto and zest. With respect to the celebrations, two competitions were held, which were based on conceptualizing and creating statue of Ganesha.

The first competition held for the entire day, during which the students were asked to conceptualize and create a Ganesha statue from scratch. The students of B.Sc. Multimedia and B.Sc. Media Technologies participated in the competition. They used materials, such as Plaster of Paris, Clay, Papier-Mâché and Pins to create some fantastic models on an array of novel themes.

Mr. Praveen Chrispugg presided over the contest and said that he was very impressed with the effort put in by all the students. He declared the 6-pack Ganesha as the winner for its concept. He was very happy to see the right attitude in the students to look upon God as a friend, one amongst themselves, rather than a larger-than-life being. He also said that he was very impressed by the innovation in thought and encouraged the students to keep trying and be different.

The second competition was on the spot, 'Make and Decorate Your Ganesha Idol'. Keeping in mind the time limit, students used materials such as textured and waste paper, wet mud, vegetables and fruits, paper cups and thermocol, electronic circuits and wires.

Mr. Praveen Chrispugg was the judge for this event as well. The students of M.Sc. Multimedia were awarded the first prize for their masterpiece – Transformer Ganesha. Mr. Praveen also appreciated the team behind the Paper Cup Ganesha for their hard work and effort, and the team behind Origami Ganesha for their research and clean execution. Overall, it was a great event and the students got to understand the importance of ideation, teamwork, communication and most importantly presentation.
