VFX Students Tour to International Film Festival 2017 @ ICAT, Bangalore
The VFX department of ICAT, Bangalore, organized a 4-days tour to Goa to attend the International Film Festival of India. 28 students and staff went on the tour from 24 to 29 November, 2017, to gain a good learning experience and exposure towards the industry standards. The tour gave the students an excellent learning experience through master classes and workshops from eminent professionals in the industry.
The tour began at 8:00 PM on 24 November when the team set off to Goa on a bus. On 25th of November, the students attended a seminar on ‘Digital Space: The Future Ahead’ by moderator Mr. Bharatbala, Filmmaker; Mr. Shekhar Kapur, Filmmaker and few others. The Filmmakers spoke about how the delivery of cinema to homes through digital means is gaining momentum day-by-day, and its adverse effects on Cinema. Then, was a master class by Mr. Mukesh Chhabra on ‘Characterization & Casting for Cinema’.
The students also attended a seminar on ‘How to Make Your Next Film – For Young Producers and Writers’ by Moderator: Ms. Anupama Chopra, Film Critic, Journalist & Author. The seminar also included Panelists like Mr. Siddharth Roy Kapur, Producer & President, The Producers Guild of India; Ms. Ekta Kapoor, Producer; Mr. Karan Johar, Filmmaker; and Mr. Sajid Nadiadwala, Filmmaker. They spoke about the new upcoming challenges faced by the filmmakers. They said that as of now web series is taking advantages on cinema and getting more popular among the audience. So to keep up in the race, filmmakers have to come up with fresh ideas.
The students also attended a VR workshop, where they were taught how to create VR content and where it can be used. They were also informed about the future of VR.
The students were very enthusiastic on all the days to meet industry experts and film celebrities.
On the last day, the students went for sightseeing to Baga Beech, Benaulim Beach, Old Goa Church, Naval Museum and St. Jacinto Island. Students thoroughly enjoyed these places.
The tour was a delightful experience for all. It was an opportunity for all to get a good industrial exposure and learn the new techniques. The tour was also a platform for them to get a taste of local food, understand the culture, appreciate the beauty of the city and develop a strong bonding between each other.
