Typography Workshop 2018 @ ICAT, Bangalore

Typography workshop was arranged on 23rd to 25th of October, 2018, by Mr. Muralidharan, a cartoonist and illustrator artist. He has almost 25 to 30 years of experience as creative artist and typography design creations, which has inspired many young ones to give their designs a creative way. Three days sessions were all about creating theme based fonts.

It was organised for both 1st year and 2nd year students. It started with combine sessions for all, and it is about the basic and introduction about typography. He showed good examples of manuscript, typography and calligraphy. He also showed the techniques to design new fonts based on the ones’ theme.

After that the separate sessions were conducted for both 1st year and 2nd year students. For 1st year students they started with very basic creation of typefaces and went on to creating new styles of fonts. Students were very enthusiast in observing his skills and keen in getting suggestions to improve their design with respect of creativity and simplicity. Each day included lectures, creative sessions, individual feedback, experiments and group discussions.

For 2nd year students it was all about creating movie titles inspired the theme of the movie. So he started with the simple exercises and went to creating some themes for the students. He showed how the typography has its own emotions and storytelling. He was very much involved in clearing the doubts raised by the students. Students has enjoyed the sessions and were happy in getting to learn some new techniques which can enhances their presentation skills.
