Study tour for 1st Year BVA Students to Cubbon Park 2021 from ICAT, Bangalore

The Department of Graphic Design and BVA Foundation, ICAT Design and Media College Bangalore organized a study tour for 1st-year BVA Students to Cubbon Park, Bangalore on the 22nd of December 2021 to learn the art of sketching and drawing. The students were filled with thrill to explore and experience this tour. Cubbon Park was originally created by Major General Richard Sankey, in 1870, during his time as the Chief engineer of the Mysore State. The park was firstly named Meade's Park in 1870. It is one of the most historical parks of Bangalore and has a great legacy to it, with various historical monuments surrounding it.

The entire purpose of the trip was to teach students about how to sketch from nature which is also called nature drawing. The students were instructed to sketch living matter like trees, shrubs, bushes, and leaves and as this would help them in their later creative process of creating challenging compositions. The objective behind this project was to discover the close bond between humans and nature, and how nature has been a phenomenal inspiration to every artist and designer.

Drawing from nature helps in managing anxiety and overcoming distractions that torment our minds. Nature drawing is a great way to focus on something more positive, productive, and inspiring. Especially for young minds, it helps them to concentrate and express themselves visually. Park trips are the ideal way to learn the process of drawing nature as they are fun and relaxing at the same time a way of learning to draw complex objects. It was a memorable trip for the students as they were engaged in a demonstration from their faculties and peers. Several students also overcame the fear of drawing as nature is ever inspiring
