Seminar on the careers in the booming digital media industry 2009 @ ICAT, Bangalore
The ICAT organized a seminar on the careers in the booming digital media industry. The seminar was focused on the Animation, Gaming and the Visual Effects industry.
The day's session was scheduled into two different sections. The first session was by Mr.Kyn Chaturvedi - Head, Games Studio of Dhruva Interactive, Bangalore. The second session by Mr.Mohana Krishnan - Corporate Communications Head, Prasad EFX, Chennai. The session began at 10.30 in the morning and went on till 1:30 in the aftemoon.
Kyn Chaturvedi of Dhruva Interactive, who has 12 years of experience in the Gaming industry, addressed the participants, who were from different PU Colleges, Degree Colleges and Gaming enthusiasts. He highlighted the growth of the gaming industry which is phenomenal and substantiated with the statistics that "U.S gaming market had a whooping 22.9% of growth from 10 billion USD to 22 billion USD in the year 2008"
He added that Indian talents are tremendous, and exclaimed that their company's first world wide PC game "Congo Bugs" is scheduled to be launched next week. When intrigued by the participants, he said that it took almost a year to execute the game and added that Gamers need enormous patience and passion to attain their goals.
Kyn walked through the roles and the opportunities available in the gaming industry and pointed out that the Indian Gaming industry will have tremendous growth in spite of the recession. He also added that if the aspirants consider Gaming as a career then they have to develop and inculcate conviction and passion towards Games, since the industry relies on creativity.
The participants were enriched with Mr.Kyn's presentation and interaction.
In the second session, Mr.Mohankrishan exclaimed that the growth of technology in Today's Films is enormous and it has improved drastically, when compared with films released a decade ago. The presentation, was followed by the screening of their works which includes Villu (Tamil), Krish (Hindi - The company bagged the Prestigious National Award for best Visual FX for this film in 2007), Shivaji (Tamil & Hindi) and several advertisements.
Mohan concluded that to be a good visual effects artist, the aspirant needs to be a good observer and should have the ability to compile a story. The participants were astonished and enhanced with the reality of the VFX industry and its growth. In addition, he made it clear the pre-requisites which includes the skills or the talents that they need to acquire to become a successful professional in this highly growing and exciting industry.
The Session was concluded by the Academic Head of ICAT stating that Technology needs to be balanced with conceptuality to take the Indian Film and the Gaming industry to the next level, for which the aspirants need to have strong dedication and conviction towards their passion.
