Seminar on Creating effective stories and pitching it 2011 @ ICAT, Bangalore
ICAT, Bangalore hosted a seminar on "Creating effective stories and pitching it".
Max Howard, internationally acclaimed speaker and consultant of animation film production of films such as Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, etc shared his knowledge and years of experience on the chosen field with the students of ICAT, Bangalore.
Mr. Howard insisted on the importance of the storytelling craft, in the age of technological advancements in the film making world in the digital era. The speaker touched upon various technological advancements today including the popular stereoscopic 3D and explained how it is losing popularity among the audience. He also gave a detailed presentation on how a budding filmmaker can pitch a story idea in a clear, understandable and impressive way in a very short time. He gave a brief presentation on popular story structures in Hollywood through interesting examples like Incredibles, Finding Nemo, Star wars etc. The seminar was fully packed with useful information for students and Max Howard made sure that it was delivered in a way that was entertaining and engaging as well.
One of Max Howard's credentials is to be a “Member of the Academy that votes for Oscar awards” This called for a lot of interest among the students and it was visibly noted in the question answer session that followed. We had lot of questions on how a film is being judged for the Oscar awards and how an Indian film can make it to Oscars etc.
It has to be noted that ICAT is organizing these seminars from time to time by international guest speakers. Ed Hooks, the author of "Acting for Animators" and David Freeman, author of “Creating Emotion in Games” were the other popular speakers to visit the college earlier this year.
