LEVEL UP - Game Founder’s Day Celebration 2021 @ ICAT, Chennai

Here comes the day we've been waiting for!

"Level UP" a mega game event presented by the ICAT Design and Media College, Chennai, on account of celebrating Game Founders Day 2021. "Level UP" is jointly hosted by the Department of Game Art & Design, Game Design & Development, and Game Programming, to make a home for game communities.

Event was conducted on 1st December 2021, 2nd December 2021 {2 days} at ICAT Design and Media College Chennai. We had around 350+ participants for this event including students from various colleges like Loyola College, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, VIT{Vellore}, Guru Nanak College, and IT professionals from game studios around Chennai.

The celebration menu included in "Level UP" were, Game Tournament {eSports competition conducted by our students with popular global games}, ICAT Game League {ICAT's homemade tournament games solely presented by our students}, Carnival Games {a gala of win-win analog games made by our students }, Game Art Show {a novelty game art exhibition showcasing our student's artistry}, Haunted House {an unusual real-time spooky walk experience designed by our students}, AR & VR Game Flash {an exclusive virtual experience programmed by our students}, and Game Showcase {an absolute game exhibition by our students}

We also conducted a Prize distribution and Cake cutting ceremony on 2nd December 2021 on account of the massive success of "Level UP". On the whole it was a next milestone for the Game departments of ICAT!

Game League

ICAT Game League turned out to be a huge success. We had 2 games namely HYPERCASCADE {PC multiplayer game} and MIRROREDGE {VR maze game}

HYPERCASCADE

The tournament game HYPERCASCADE was developed by second year Game Programming students Blesson, Soundarapandian, and Subash as PC two player PVP mode. On the day of the event the entire class of second year Game Programming was supporting the team to conduct the tournament starting from registration of participants, briefing the gameplay instruction to participants, whatsapp group creation and management for the selected participants, tournament bracket result processing with fairplay system and feedback collection. HYPERCASCADE was conducted as a tournament game with different rounds like selection, quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals. Overall we had 100+ registrations and 100+ participants have given excellent ratings in the feedback. We have also announced a cash prize which was distributed among the Winner {Janaprasanth}, 1st Runner Up {Benny James} 2nd Runner Up {Abraham}. The entire credit goes to second year Game Programming students who have made this a massive hit.

MIRROREDGE

MIRROREDGE is a VR solo maze game developed by final year Game Programming students Roy and Arvind. On the day of the event a team of 5 students from final year Game Programming was supporting in registration of participants, briefing the gameplay instruction to participants, result processing with fairplay system and feedback collection. MIRROREDGE was conducted as a VR solo game with an entry fee and all winners were rewarded with a cash prize. Totally there were 50+ registrations and 3 winners. The entire credit goes to the final year Game Programming team who organised this virtual amusement.

Game Tournament

Game Tournament event is a multiplayer competition between gamers (individual or teams) playing popular global games like FIFA 21, Valorant, Mortal Kombat, Brawlhalla. Overall there were 100+ participants. Winners & Runner were rewarded with cash prize and the game posters:

Tournament was conducted by collecting entry fees from each participant depending upon the game they chose and the final year Game Design & Development was organising it completely. The entire credits goes to final year Game Design & Development.

Game Flash

Game Flash is an AR, PC and Mobile game showcase by our ICAT students. Each student is provided a stall and backdrop to exhibit their works. Totally there were 19 games, where 14 PC games, 3 Mobile games and 2 AR Games. The room was decorated with lighting and posters. We had around 75+ people who visited the "Game Flash" and provided oral feedback to each game. There were many types of games like combat, shooting, platformer, illusion, racing, maze & puzzle, kids coloring and objects finding. Overall it was presented by second year and final year students from Game departments.

Carnival Game

Carnival Games event is a gala of analog games developed by our students which challenges the physical and mental skill of the participants.

Haunted House

It's a spooky or ghost house created by our students Mohammed Kouzer from first year Game Design & Development and Varun Kumar from second year Game Design & Development. Almost 200+ people have walked-in to get amused. To create this haunted setup students developed the blueprint and invested in materials, costumes, makeup artists, actors, sound effects, voice artist, props like skull, fake blood, axe, etc. Apart from the 2 students who initiated and organised the entire show, there were many ICAT students from other departments who helped in this. Big Hats Off to all ICATians.

Squid Game

SQUID GAME is one of the carnival games created and organised by first year Game Programming inspired from Squid series popular in Netflix. SQUID GAME was conducted with free entry and awarded with each winner was crunchy rewards. The gameplay had 3 levels like pass the rope in lighting, pebbles exchange and M2W task. Best part is one of the students of first year Game Programming was costumed like the SQUID character to explain the rules of the gameplay. Participants took selfies with the SQUID character wearing the mask.
