Industry Visit to Mysore Silk Weaving Factory 2019 from ICAT, Bangalore
On 13th September 2019 , the trip started with the first visit to Mysore silk weaving factory. The factory was established in the year 1912 by Sri Krishnaraja Wodeyar, The Maharaja of Mysore province. Later in the year 1980, the factory was handed over to Karnataka silk industry corporation. The green campus was very well maintained and well kept with high security. As the students entered the factory they were able to witness the entire process of weaving, right from the stage of cocoon to warping. The students were amazed to see the realtime process of theory put into practise, which gave them much more clarity in the concept. The students were introduced to dyeing unit, where they were exposed to the colour dyeing and drying process. That was the end of the stay at the factory.
Next, the trip was moved on to the Mysore palace, which is the most famous tourist place in Mysore. The students were taken away by the majestic view of the palace and it’s ever living history. Looking at such places, they were able to look back at the olden eras and see where we have come from. The architecture and the designs of the palace were something unimaginable even in the present era. Students totally admired the beauty behind every single thing in the palace. Right from the majestic gates till the minute details on the ceilings. Every painting in the palace had a story for itself, each portraying different perspectives. It was truly astonishing to see the detailing behind each of those handmade works, with no editing software that we have now.
The trip ended with the visited to KRS dam, Great Dam built across the river Cauvery. Was built by a great engineer and statesman Sir M.Vishweshwaraiah and ably supported by the Mysore Maharaja. This dam is definitely an engineering marvel during the time in which it was built. The garden (called Brindavan Gardens) alongside is as beautiful and will come to full life in the evenings when the whole garden and the fountains is lit with colourful lights. Overall a beauty to enjoy. Overall, it was a great experience for students with immense learning and beautiful memories, that would cherish forever.
