Industry Visit to Invent Architects 2019 from ICAT, Chennai

Invent Architects is an architectural firm in Adayar , who has been in this field for the past 11 years now and has designed many projects in this time period . Today’s industrial visit was meant to be a recap for the various topics covered in class, using live examples.

In the past 11 years Invent Architects have designed various major projects and the details of those projects were shared with ICAT students. Every project was designed based on a concept, and also it was made sure that the concept is carried forward throughout the design. For example;“ The Aayadi house” is a complete demonstration of proper vaastu along with an eye for designs , put forth in a way that it showcases the 5 elements of nature ( fire, air, earth, water and sky). The whole house is situated in the southeast corner of the land, they have also carved the signs of the 5 elements and used it to display it in their various designs in the house. Likewise all the projects are designed on a main concept, like “the submarine” is a restaurant designed by them where the theme of ocean has been used in every aspect of design. The industrial visit was not just a brush up on the various topics taught in the class but also to give a glimpse of how it is professionally done. As all the students have already started with the residential designing as a part of their academics, this session with the Invent Architects gave everyone an idea of how the work is finally expected to come up and how to make it client ready so that it creates that first impression.

Before today we have visited the under construction sites in ECR as a part of the live case study which gave us an idea of how the elevation of a house practically comes into existence, but today’s session gave the students an idea on how to make the design look presentation ready to the clients so that the clients not just understands the designs but also the designs can be taken forward for further implementation. Now that the students know how to make a design and how to make it look appealing, they can use this knowledge for future assignments in both, their academics and future projects.
