Fashion Students’ Industrial Visit to Tiruppur 2015 from ICAT, Chennai
Around 28 Fashion Design students of ICAT Design and Media College, Chennai and Bangalore visited Tiruppur on 15 May, 2015, to gain real-time knowledge on Circular Knitting. At Tiruppur, the students visited three manufacturing units: Murthi Knitwear Fabric, Sri Lakshmi Textile Processors and Renugha Knit Fashion.
At the manufacturing units, the students understood that apart from the advanced machineries and equipments, total dedication, effective support and stringent quality control made the manufacturing units create extraordinary quality knit garments. The students gained awareness on Hosiery Fabric Manufacturing, Single Jersey Knitting, Rib Knitting, Soft Flow Dyeing Machine & Padding Machines, Multi-Nozzle Low/High Temperature Dyeing Technology and Jet Dyeing Machine. Automatic Color Mixing Machine to acquire 100% accuracy on fabric dyeing at Sri Lakshmi Textile Processors was exhilarating. The students explored through the process by interacting with the staff and also collected samples for reference.
This industry visit enlightened the minds of students and was helpful not only in terms of their curriculum in college level, but also as an eye-opener to fashion market & technologies.
Student's Feedback:
"The trip to Tiruppur was very beneficial to me. I was able see practically the whole process of manufacturing a knitted fabric, right from handling the raw materials to the finally packing the finished product. I saw the different kinds of machines used in making a knitted fabric, needles of different sizes, how they test the fabric, how they cut the fabric using machines and how they wash the fabric." Naga Harshita Batchu, L5 - Bangalore

"Through this industrial visit, we gained a vast knowledge on Circular Knitting. It was a great opportunity to see the operation of the German and Thaiwan made dyeing machines (THEIS and FONGS) at the dyeing unit. It was great to see the huge cylinders mixing dye and other components with the knitted fabric, and the live bleaching process at 110 degree celsius. We also saw different sized dyeing machines and understood how each one is used for specific purpose. Finally, it was amazing to watch the Italian Padding machine and the thread sensor. Overall, the visit proved to be a wonderful learning experience. Thanks to ICAT." Pooja, L5 - Chennai
