Green Carnival 2018 @ ICAT, Chennai
We globally celebrate ‘Earth Day’ on 22nd of April every year, with people hosting different events to appreciate the glory of Mother Earth and to remind us to protect the wealth she gives us. With numerous environmental issues around us, ICAT takes this Day as an opportunity to instill the feel of responsibility to protect the Mother Earth in every student and public.
In this regard, ICAT had the First year Game Design & Development, and Game programming students to develop physical games on the theme ‘Recycle today for a better tomorrow’ that spread awareness among the players to protect the environment; and the games were showcased for the public on 20 April, 2018, at Guindy National Park, Chennai.
Mr. William Campbell, Associate Professor, Director of International Recruitment at Birmingham City University visited the showcase and happily took on to play the games designed by our students.
All the games showcased insisted on the three ‘R’s: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Numerous kids and adults from the public actively took up the games that taught them a lot about water pollution, land pollution and noise pollution and ways to prevent all these environmental pollutions. Our students explained their games very well and interacted well with the public. Kids enjoyed the games as they could easily understand how to play. Our students also distributed some attractive gifts to the audience who won in the games.
This carnival showcase helped our students get an idea on how audience reacts to a game. Overall, it was an overwhelming experience for the students to showcase their game designing talents directly to the public.
Student's Feedback:
“The first thing I like about the showcase is the place it happened, where we were able to communicate to different types of people. It was very interesting for me to see how public react to a game rule and enjoy while playing a game. Thanks for giving this opportunity.”Sundhar S, L4, GDD
“In this carnival, we understood people mentality towards games. It gave me a good idea about their likes and dislikes.”Nishanth R, L4, GDD
