Under Graduate courses of ICAT validated by Birmingham City University 2012 @ ICAT

It was a historic day for ICAT in June 2012, when Under Graduate Art & Design courses of ICAT got validated by one of the prestigious University of United Kingdom, Birmingham City University. Birmingham City University is one of the top universities in England. And its Art & Design department - Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD) is one of the most established, largest and most significant centres for art, design and architecture education in the world.

Birmingham and the Midlands has become a centre for high value, design-led production. Triumph Motorcycles, Jaguar Landrover, Denby, and Pashley Cycles are some of the highly successful manufacturing companies that value the university and work with them nationally and internationally. They have worked and continue to work with major companies such as Warner Brothers. Association with the University of this cadre is definitely going to be beneficial for ICAT & its students.

Total of 16 awards got validated which fall under the broader spectrum of three BA Honours degree courses namely

• Communication Design
• Design Study
• Fashion & Communication Design

ICAT will deliver these courses from its all three campuses at Chennai, Bangalore & Hyderabad. These awards are to be launched within 2012 to 2015. Awards that are launched in 2012 are

• BA (Hons) Communication Design (Animation) in Chennai, Bangalore & Hyderabad campus
• BA (Hons) Communication Design (Visual Effects) in Chennai, Bangalore & Hyderabad campus
• BA (Hons) Communication Design (Game Art & Design) in Chennai, Bangalore & Hyderabad campus
• BA (Hons) Communication Design (Graphics) in Chennai, Bangalore & Hyderabad campus
• BA (Hons) Communication Design (Advertising) in Chennai, Bangalore & Hyderabad campus
• BA (Hons) Design Study (Interior Design) in Chennai campus
• BA (Hons) Fashion & Communication Design (Fashion Design) in Chennai & Bangalore campus

This truly was a big leap for ICAT in the design industry with appropriate and able support, as it had already made its mark in the gaming and animation world. With the launch of new courses, ICAT has broadened itself in the design sector as well which will enhance its existing courses further. Design education is an important tool in developing products and services that add meaningful value to the lives of people. Although this is just the trend, more and more businesses and small enterprises are looking at design as a whole process than just a business tool.

Today students are more aware of international design and most definitely have an opinion on every global topic of design innovation. Generation of today intuitively knows what good quality design is. Customers these days are more global and expect internal quality in anything they purchase. Students community have to be equipped with appropriate knowledge for catering to the need of the future and ICAT definitely will be part of this tremendous growth that the design industry require at present to cope up with the need of future generation of our country and the world at large.
